Around this time of year 15 years ago, my daughter, Elise, and I were exploring our new neighborhood, Potrero Hill. We just moved in and I was looking for a job. That is, until we stumbled upon sweet little flower shop called Bell and Trunk Flowers with a for sale sign in the window. Elise, all of nine years old at the time, encouraged me to buy it. "You love flowers, you can be your own boss and I'll help you," she said. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. We weathered some hard years due to a recession and a pandemic but in the end it was worth it. Bell and Trunk is thriving and we couldn't imagine life without Potrero Hill at the center of our universe. We love our community. Many of our customers have become life-long fiends, and the designers who help to keep us going are like family. It's hard to imagine what Bell and Trunk will look like 15 years from now but with any luck we'll still be celebrating life's big moments with peonies, roses and tulips. Photo by: John Curley
Happy Mother's Day !
At Bell and Trunk we definitely have a favorite holiday--Mother's Day. It's the second busiest holiday next to Valentine's Day. We are pleasantly busy but not overly. Everyone's favorite flowers are in season like peonies, tulips and lilac, and our customers are simply grateful to be shown some appreciation. Many years ago I delivered flowers to an elderly women who lived down the street. When I knocked, she yelled at me from behind the door to go away. "Nobody would send me flowers," she said. I told her that her son would be disappointed if she didn't take the flowers. That's when she opened the door and read the card addressed to her. The flowers were indeed from her 60-year-old son who recently found her through a genealogy test. It said, "Happy First Mother's Day."
I'd like to wish all the moms, biological and chosen, a very special Mother's Day.
Warmly,
Vanessa

From Coral Charm peonies to French tulips to intoxicating garden roses—all of mom's favorite flowers are in season. Let us wow her with lush blooms surrounded by soft accents like fragrant lilac, snowball viburnum and hydrangea. We will create florals as unique and special as she is.
This limited edition floral arrangement is inspired by blush rosebuds that curl like babies' fists, buttery yellow tulips gently kissing the morning sun and peach ranunculus as soft as bunny ears. The Pastel is gentle, playful and easy to love with muted hues in many possible colors--peach, pink, blue, purple, yellow and all the soft shades in between. This arrangement is for someone who enjoys a cool breeze along with a warm ray of sunshine and sees unlimited potential in all the subtle signs of spring.
This whimsical option is for the ultimate flower lover. After all, at the end of the day, wouldn't it be nice to have a freshly plucked bouquet from an English garden? While some flowers are carefully cultivated, others are left to proliferate, yet still the hummingbirds and bumble bees go about their business anyway. With that notion in mind, we will create a floral arrangement for you that's vibrant, unique, and fresh. Just don't be surprised if a butterfly comes with it.
This earthy choice is for the kind of person who is easily stopped in their tracks by colorful buds popping out of the soil after a fresh rain. No matter the type of flower, as long as it's fresh, fragrant and in full bloom, it's fair game. Our seasonal arrangements are often playful--mixing warm tones with cool tones--and always on point with interesting textures and delightful accents.
Thank you for another fun and exciting Valentine's Day!
Things couldn't have turned out any better this Valentine's Day: the flowers were beautiful, our team worked really hard and our customers were happy. Thank you for your support everyone!
My daughter Elise made a cute TikTok video that will give you a sense of what things were like behind the scenes. I hope you enjoy.

Since day one, Bell and Trunk has relied on it's community to pitch in and help out when the work becomes a little unwieldy. This year was no different. We have a long tradition of accepting help from our friends at The South End Rowing Club, a volunteer run organization at Aquatic Park where I am currently the rowing commissioner. This year was extra special because some of our neighbors at the Dolphin Boating Club pitched in too! Thank you Louisa Swain (left picture), Bill Post, James Dilworth (right picture), and Wafaa Sabil. Also a big thanks to Jennifer Fletcher.

What we said:
“When the trees are blossoming, I like to prune a few branches off and bring them inside. Mimosa and cherry blossoms are my favorites. Also, I’ll snip a few fragrant blooms like garden roses and narcissus and put them in vintage medicine bottles that I’ll scatter around the house.”
